It could be that after being used a bit the seams are not as tough to manipulate as when it's fresh out of the box.
Either way, we recommend reading the tent cot manufacturer's instructions carefully and doing a dry run when you are still at home to avoid any frustrations on the camping trip.
Are Cots Good For Side Sleepers?
As a side sleeper myself I know how uncomfortable you can get if your sleeping mat is inadequate - your hipbones and shoulder bones tend to dig into the hard ground. So the trick is to find a super-duper air mattress or sleeping pad OR a well-designed camp cot.
But in general, tent cots can be good for side sleepers if they are properly sized and firm enough that they don't sag into any obstacles below.
If you're a side sleeper who tends to toss and turn at night, a tent cot can be a good option because it will keep you more stable than a sleeping bag on the ground.
And if you opt for a tent cot with a slight slope, it can help relieve some pressure on your hips and shoulders.
How Can I Make My Cot More Comfortable?

There are differing opinions on this. Some campers will scoff at the idea of packing an extra mattress when you already have a comfortable bed to sleep on. Most camp cots are made for use without a mattress.
On the other hand, if you do have extra packing space and you are not having to carry your tent cot gear in a pack or for any distance, and weight is not a consideration, there are some brilliant options available to you.

If you have loads of extra space you could even opt for a heavy-duty mattress instead of a camp bed.
